With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
After Yusuf (AS), with the help of Allah successfully warded off the temptations from his employer’s wife, the ladies in the city heard of the matter and began discussing it.
Verse 30 :“And the ladies in the city said: “The wife of the Aziz desires her young slave to yield himself (to her). Her love for him has pierced her heart, but truly we see her in an obvious error.”
To prove her point, she holds a banquet and gives each one a knife. She calls Yusuf (AS) to present himself at the banquet. Upon his attendance at the banquet, the ladies are mesmerised by his good looks and appeal to the
extent that they cut their hands. This gives us an indication of the good looks and charm that Yusuf (AS) was invested with, yet he held firmly to his moral values.
Verse 31: “So when they saw him, they deemed him great (in charm, beauty and dignity) ….Allah forbid! This is no human being! Nay he is none but a noble angel”
The Aziz’s wife firstly tried to seduce Yusuf and then tried to slander his character. She now uses the reaction at the banquet as an excuse to justify her actions. What next …
