Surah Noor (24) 03/12/2015

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Surah 24 (The Light)

In keeping with the theme of preserving the moral fabric of society Allah SWT then regulates the law concerning adultery and fornication.

Verse 2 “The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes:  Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment”

Adultery/Fornication is one of the most serious offences in the sight of Allah SWT and not only does the Quran require flogging  or lashing the guilty parties 100 times each (following the due process of law and evidence), but that such flogging must be done with a degree of publicity.     This is meant to be a deterrent for a crime that breaks the fabric of society and the punishment duly fits the crime.    However the door of Allah’s forgiveness and mercy still remains open for such offenders.

25:68-70 “The (servants of the Most Gracious) are those who …… not commit fornication;  and any that does this shall meet the punishment,  the penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to him………… unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds”

Continues tomorrow InshaAllah…
