Sura 28 (Qasas)

The Mercy in Allah’s message

After mentioning the destruction of Pharoah, Allah SWT reminds the Quraish that they are being tested likewise –as Moosa AS served as a messenger to Pharoah so was Muhammad SAW serving as a messenger to them.  The warning is clear, If they fail to amend their evil ways and heed Allah’s message they would meet the same fate as Pharoah, that is complete destruction.

Verse 46-47 “……… Yet are you sent as a mercy from your Lord, to give warning to a people to whom no warner had come before you: in order that they may receive admonition.  If (We had) not (sent you to the Quraish),- in case a calamity should seize them for (the deeds) that their hands have sent forth, they might say: “Our Lord! why did You not send us a messenger? We should then have followed Thy Signs and been amongst those who believe!””

The mercy of Muhammad SAW was in the form of Allah’s message, if the Arabs believed in it and lived it, they would avert Allah’s punishment and become successful.

Cross reference 6:155.  “And this is a Book which We have revealed as a blessing: so follow it and be righteous, that ye may receive mercy”
