With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sura 28 (Qasas)
Arrogance – a self destructing trait
Verse 78 He (Qarun) said: “This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge which I have.” Did he not know that Allah had destroyed, before him, (whole) generations,- which were superior to him in strength and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected? but the wicked are not called (immediately) to account for their sins.
28:79 So he went forth among his people in the (pride of his wordly) glitter. Said those whose aim is the Life of this World: “Oh! that we had the like of what Qarun has got! for he is truly a lord of mighty good fortune!”
Qarun’s arrogance knew no limits and yet Allah SWT showed mercy towards him by giving him an opportunity to repent and amend his conduct.
Ref 35:45 If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature:…..
Verse 78-79 so aptly expounds upon the serious consequences of being infatuated with materialism which in turn leads to arrogance. In order to avoid his social and moral responsibility he claimed that his amassed fortunes were entirely due to his own knowledge forgetting that all his skills and talents really come from Allah SWT.
May Allah save us from arrogance and infatuation with materialism.
