With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sura 29 (Ankabut – The Spider)
Communicating the Message to the People of the Book
And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, “We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam).”
Here we are taught an important lesson on communicating the message. It should be aimed at more than mere argument but rather focus on educating and enlightening. Arguments could only be justified when the Truth is attacked and matters should be clarified lest people be misled. Furthermore the verse counsels us to remind the ahlal kitaab that we believe in all revelation from Allah and that He is common to all humanity. We learn that we should remove such divisionary thinking and bring people to the Truth of Allah (SWT) that has been continuos through the history of time.
