With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sura 29 (Ankabut – The Spider)
Seeking the supernatural
“Yet they say: “Why are not Signs sent down to him from his Lord?” Say: “The signs are indeed with Allah: and I am indeed a clear Warner.” And is it not enough for them that we have sent down to thee the Book which is rehearsed to them? Verily, in it is Mercy and a Reminder to those who believe.”
The complaint by the kufaar, against the Prophet is typical of the common mentality seeking the supernatural and seeking magic and miraculous signs to prove the Truth. The reality is that this would just serve a fleeting moment to the immediate audience whereas the message of the Quran was meant to provide a miracle for all time. This shows the nobility of the Prophet (SAW) as a human messenger who brought the Quran, which served as his miracle. This sign continues to ignite the minds of people many generations after its revelation. It is no wonder that the Quran draws our attention to the miraculous signs in nature, the things we often overlook – the Sun, Moon, Vegetation, Rain etc. It is by contemplation of these signs that we realise not only the existence of Allah SWT but we remain in awe and reverence of Him.
