Sura 32 (As-Sajda)

Rain a life giving blessing

Verse 27: And do they not see that We do drive rain to parched soil (bare of herbage), and produce therewith crops, providing food for their cattle and themselves? Have they not the vision?

This short verse highlights a very simple but continuous cycle of nature that Allah (SWT) has created that has helped to maintain life. The end of the verse asks a critical question of observation. Have we stopped for a moment and given this a brief reflection? We would not be alive were it not for this process.

Looking at this verse metaphorically and viewing rain as divine revelation, we see that just as rain has supported human existence, so too has the revelations sent by Allah (SWT). These have ensured human progression, unshackling the minds of people and removing superstition and false belief thus acting as a catalyst for modern civilization. The Quran ushered in scientific thinking and reason and the produce (the multiplicity of comforts) has come through the period of enlightenment which “they themselves” now consume in the form of scientific thinking and reason. The verses ends aptly, do they not have the vision!

Continues tomorrow…

Salaam/Peace
