With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sura 40 (Mumin)
Forgiveness and repentance
Verse 3 “(Allah, He) Who forgives sin, accepts repentance, is strict in punishment, and has a long reach (in all things). There is no god but He: to Him is the final goal”.
The purpose of our existence is to realise Allah’s oneness and supreme authority as the final goal. However as is the case of the nature of human kind we falter and become oblivious of the duty to our Creator. His mercy is reflected in the fact that He is willing to forgive provided we seek His forgiveness and then also turn to Him by rectifying our conduct.
However immediately thereafter Allah warns us that He is strict in punishment and has a long reach – in other words nothing escapes His knowledge (21:47). The violators of His commandments will not escape His punishment if they do not sincerely repent and amend their conduct. He then reminds us that our focus and service should be for Him and Him alone.
