With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sura 45 (AL-Jathiyah)
Obeying our own desires
“Then seest thou such a one as takes as his god his own vain desire? Allah has, knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart (and understanding), and put a cover on his sight. Who, then, will guide him after Allah (has withdrawn Guidance)? Will ye not then receive admonition?”
As believers we ought to recognise that the only deity worthy of worship is Allah SWT. In this verse Allah SWT addresses those who prefer their own opinions over and above Allah’s laws. These could refer to philosophers, so called great thinkers as well as ordinary persons who become infatuated with their own desires and as a result the truth becomes obscure. Such people will not receive Allah’s guidance as long as they remain committed to their own desires in preference to Allah’s words. Let us remember to always place the truth (AL Quran) above our own desires.
