Sura Fath (48) 03/08/2016

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Surah 48 (Fath)

Excuses of the hypocrites

Verse 11: The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: “We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: “Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do.

As highlighted the Muslims were under attack and there was a strong need for the believers to galvanize and protect themselves as a united front. Unfortunately, it was within the ranks that problems arose and when the call was made, the excuses provided were that they had other things to do… involvement with their families and material possessions.

Thus they showed no commitment to the cause and we just name sake believers. There was a total disconnect between their speech and what was their inner conviction. The same question could be asked of us today and our level of commitment. Faith implies heart felt conviction and action.
