Sura 54 (Qamr)

The majority may not always be correct

Verse 43-44
“Are your Unbelievers, (O Quraysh), better than they? Or have ye an immunity in the Sacred Books? Or do they say: We acting together can defend ourselves?”

After narrating the incidents of previous generations and the fate they encountered due to their rejection of the message, Allah SWT addresses the people of Muhammad SAW asking them if they are any different to those people. The Quraysh thought that due to their majority they were on the right path and felt safe with their vast numbers. However, they were eventually defeated and came to realise that they were deceived by their numbers. From here we learn that the majority may not always be correct, but it is only those who follow the ways of Allah that are.

Cross reference Surah 6 verse 216
“If you obeyed most of those on earth, they would lead you away from the path of God. They follow nothing but speculation; they are merely guessing.”

Continues tomorrow InshaAllah…
