With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The announcement of hajj

The days of Hajj are upon us and the importance of hajj has been demonstrated in the Quran. For this week we will be doing some of the verses dealing with hajj. We commence with the proclamation of Hajj by Allah swt.

22.27 – And proclaim the pilgrimage among men: they will come to thee on foot and (mounted) On every kind of camel, lean on account of journeys through deep and distant mountain highways;
22.28 That they may witness the benefits (provided) for them, and celebrate the name Of Allah, through the Days Appointed, over the cattle which he has provided for them (for sacrifice): then eat ye Thereof and feed the distressed Ones in want.

The initiation of Hajj was by Ebrahim AS where Allah SWT tells him to proclaim the Hajj to mankind. This tells us of the universality of hajj not just being confined to the Arabs but to all people. It teaches us that humanity is one and the only distinguishing factor is taqwa or God consciousness. We can see the Quranic miracle here, Makka is an extremely difficult destination to reach yet Allah promises that people will come regardless of the great difficulty and using various modes of transport. The purpose of Hajj is to witness, as a universal ummah, the benefits of this international gathering.

Continues tomorrow inshallah
