Sura Ar-Rahman (55) 21/09/2016

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura Ar-Rahman (55)

Mankind is responsible to preserve the harmony created by Allah swt

Verses 9-11
“So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. It is He who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures, therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates), also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?”

The perfect harmony created by Allah SWT as alluded to in the previous verses must be maintained by mankind. Allah swt has made us khalifs (successors) on the earth and our task is to act justly towards our fellow man and the environment. We must ensure that the provisions of the earth are made accessible to our fellow man and not allow that such provisions be exploited for the benefit of just a handful of people. As regards the environment, we should ensure that we do not exploit the earth to an extent that causes environmental degradation. If we fail to pursue justice we will effectively be guilty of denying Allah’s favours.
