In the name of Allah, most Kind, most Merciful
Surah 73 (Muzammil)
*Night Vigil with the Quran*
Verses 1-4: “O thou folded in garments! Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- Half of it,- or a little less, Or a little more; and recite the Qur’an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.”
This is one of the earliest revelations to the Prophet (SAW) and may have been the 2nd or 3rd in order. It is important to note that at this early stage of the mission special focus was placed on utilizing the night effectively. Allowing time for sleep, a large portion was required to be assigned to the Quran. The phrase “rattlilil-Qurana, tartillan” is best explained as “recite the Qur’an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning”. This was important as the Muslim community would use the Quran as their guiding light through ensuing 23 years of the deliverance of the message and establishment of Islam.
Continues tomorrow…Insha Allah
