Sura Tur (52)
Verses 7-10

The destruction and confusion on the Day of Judgement

Verse 7-10: Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;-There is none can avert it;- On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. And the mountains will fly hither and thither.

On the day of judgement the earth as we know it will be destroyed and mankind will be in terror. On this day the realisation of accountability will dawn on those who rejected the message. This will bring about great regret and sorrow to the rejecters and each one will be concerned for their individual salvation.

Cross reference- Surah 22 Verses 1-2:
O mankind! fear your Lord! for the convulsion of the Hour (of Judgment) will be a thing terrible! The Day ye shall see it, every mother giving suck shall forget her suckling-babe, and every pregnant female shall drop her load (unformed): thou shalt see mankind as in a drunken riot, yet not drunk: but dreadful will be the Wrath of Allah.

Allah has created us for His service

Verse 56
“And I have not created the jinn and the humans except that they should serve Me”.

Allah (SWT) informs us here that the purpose for the creation of man and jinn is to serve Him. Serving Him means taking Him as our exclusive Master and living our lives in accordance with His prescriptions. Both humans and jinn are gifted with freedom of choice and can either rise to the most lofty position by observing the Divine commandments or fall to the lowest of the low by violating Allah’s commandments. This choice rests with us and Allah compels no one to follow His laws as these laws are naturally attractive to anyone seeking peace and prosperity.

The benefit of reminders

Verse 55

“But teach (thy Message): for teaching benefits the Believers.”

Sometimes when hearing some verses of the Quran or an islamic talk, we think that we know this or we’ve heard this before. What we think is just repetition is actually good for us as it serves to remind us of things we may have forgotten. The reminder also can help us get a better understanding of the verses or topics.

Verses 51-54

“And make not another an object of worship with God: I am from Him a warner to you, clear and open!
Similarly, no apostle came to the Peoples before them, but they said in like manner ‘A sorcerer or one possessed”! Is this the legacy they have transmitted, one to another? Nay, they are themselves a people transgressing beyond bounds! So turn away from them: not thine is the blame.”

We should not set up any authorities along with Allah and remember that part of the Prophet’ s mission was to warn. Whenever messengers came, those who rejected the truth, called them sorcerers and mad. They handed down this tradition of evil in dealing with those who brought the truth. But it will have no effect. Do not pay heed to their abuses and revilings.

The Astounding Creative Capabilities Of Allah SWT

Verse 47 – 50

With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of space. And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out! And of every thing We have created pairs: That ye may receive instruction. Hasten ye then (at once) to Allah: I am from Him a Warner to you, clear and open!

The above verses give us a glimpse into the infinite and marvelous creative capabilities of Allah SWT.
We have been given able minds and bodies and have been placed on an earth that is rich in every conceivable resource that is necessary for our life here.Furthermore the earth is spacious enough for all of humanity to flourish and co exist harmoniously.

We are urged to hasten our efforts towards gaining the good pleasure of Allah SWT by also being gracious and generous towards our fellow citizens.

Cross Ref : 28:77 “But seek, with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief.”

The many signs that point to the existence of Allah SWT

Verse 21-21

“On the earth are signs for those of assured Faith. As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see?”

The earth’s structure, its design being made suitable for human existence, the different seasons on it, the vast array of animal, plant and other life all point to the existence of an All Knowing, All Powerful Divine Being. Furthermore our own bodies testify to the existence of such a Supreme Being – the miraculous nature of each organ which is incapable of being reproduced by any other then Allah swt. All these should bring humans to a realisation of Allah’s existence and lead to us to submit to His laws. However, many of us pass by these signs oblivious to the fact that it should strengthen our faith in the Divine Being and take His promise of the Afterlife seriously.

Characteristics of the Righteous

Sura 51

Verse 15 – 19: “As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Springs. Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life. They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night. And in the hours of early dawn, they (were found) praying for Forgiveness. And in their wealth and possessions (was remembered) the right of the (needy,) him who asked, and him who (for some reason) was prevented (from asking).”

The righteous are here promised Heaven and three characteristics are given. Firstly they lived a life of goodness meaning their character and actions were full of benefit to others. Secondly they were close to the Creator and conscious of their accountability even when others were physically or spiritually asleep. Thirdly they realised that their wealth came with a responsibility to ensure that the needs of the less fortunate were attended to.

Make Dawah with the Quran

45. We know best what they say; and Thou art not one to overawe them by force. so admonish with the Qur’an such As fear My Warning!

The believers were in a weak position to fight against the hostilities of the Quraysh. Allah advises them to remind them by means of the Quran. This is a lesson for us to make Dawah with the Quran as a means of teaching people about Islam.

Allah knows all our doings

16. it was we who created man, and we know what dark suggestions His soul makes to him: for we are nearer to Him than (His) jugular vein.
17. Behold, two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and noted them), one sitting on the right and one on the left.
18. not a word does He utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it).

Allah knows what ideas are present in our mind. He has appointed two angels to record all our doings. We have to remember that Allah is aware of everything that we do and even think about and Allah will enquire about it on the Day of Judgement.

We not doing Allah a favour by being Muslim

49:17. They impress on thee as a favour that they have embraced Islam. say, “Count not your Islam as a favour upon Me: Nay, Allah has conferred a favour upon you that He has guided you to the Faith, if ye be true and sincere.

There were some pagan Arabs who thought that they were doing Allah a favour by accepting Islam. Remember that our acceptance of Islam is a favour from Allah on us. How would we know right from wrong if we didn’t have the guidance from Allah. We would have been totally lost.
