Surah Mumin (40) 01/05/2016

bismi_65

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 40 (Mumin)

This Sura derives its name from verses 28-45 and deals with the individual’s witness to faith and virtue and his triumph in the end.  In essence it gives solace to the Muslims who were being persecuted, it warns the persecutors and foretells the triumph of truth and the failure of opposition to the truth.

Verse 1-2
“Ha Meem, The revelation of this Book is from Allah, exalted in power, full of knowledge.”

The revelation is associated with two interesting attributes of Allah SWT.  The first being Al- Azeez which signifies Allah’s authority/power and the second Al Aleem which signifies Allah’s infinite knowledge.   In other words the Quran reflects Allah’s authority and its contents are based on complete knowledge.   No addition or reduction to Allah’s words is necessary simply because He is Al-Aleem, the one with complete knowledge.

Surah Saffat (37) 08/04/2016

bismi_65

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 37 (Saffat)

The orderly arrangement of Believers

Verses 1-4

“By those who range themselves in ranks, And so are strong in repelling (evil),  And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah), Verily, verily, your God is one.”

The Sura is named “Saffaat” meaning the ranks and referring to those who are arranged or being in order which in turn alludes to a well organised community or society.   This well organised community not only resists and prevents evil but also reminds people of Allah’s message and in particular Allah’s oneness. Allah’s oneness means His absolute authority which is manifested in our daily lives through living in accordance with His revelation.   Of importance is for believers to apply the principles of “Saffat” or orderly arrangement in our social and political lives and utilise the benefits thereof to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.

Surah Ankabut (29) 04/02/2016

bismi_65

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 29 (Ankabut- The spider)

Verse 2-3 “Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, “We believe”, and that they will not be tested.  We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false”

The sura opens by informing us that we will not pass through life easily.
Mere verbal profession of imaan (faith) is not sufficient,  life will present us with challenges and our response thereto will determine whether
we truly believe or not.  In other words our belief is reflected in our deeds.  This has been the way of Allah with previous generations and we are forewarned that we will be tested likewise.    Allah expects believers to
respond to life’s challenges with perseverance (sabr) by remaining firmly committed to their noble objectives.

Cross reference 3:143 “Did ye think that ye would enter Heaven without Allah testing those of you who struggle hard (In His Cause) and remained steadfast”

2:155 “Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere”

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Surah 24 (Nur)

Verse 36 and 37 “(Lit is such a Light) in houses, which Allah hath permitted to be raised to honour; for the celebration, in them, of His name: In them is He glorified in the mornings and in the evenings, (again and again),-
By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity: Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new),-”

This light of Allah”s wahi illuminates the homes of the believers where the laws and directives of Allah are constantly being studied for the express purpose of being implemented to create a benevolent society that is just and righteous.

In Verse 37 we see the commitment and dedication of the believers – to be successful they remain constant in striving to establish and maintain this justly  balanced society and do not allow themselves to be distracted by commercial and financial matters .They are people filled with awesome consciousness of the Day of Accountability.

Surah 23 (The Believers)

The Believers are successful

Verse 1
“Successful indeed are the believers”

This Sura mentions some of the attributes that lead to the salvation and deliverance of the believers from verses 1 to 11. These practical attributes are so comprehensive and accurate that they also cover various aspects of social and personal life. All of the acts mentioned in these verses that describe a believer (Humble in prayer, avoid vain talk, active in charity, abstain from unlawful sexual relations, observe their trusts, guard their prayers) are done for the sake of, or to attain to, purity.
A similar set of qualities are used to describe the servants of Allah and those that pray in Surah 25 and Surah 70.
