Surah Rum (30) 11/02/2016

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 30 (Rum – the Romans)

Victory … is a matter of time

Verses 2-5 “The Roman Empire has been defeated,  in a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious, within a few years.   … on that Day shall the Believers rejoice with the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful”

The Believers were under tremendous pressure at the hands of the Polytheists.  When the Roman empire, being People of Scripture were defeated by the Persians, it dealt another blow to Religion in general.
These verses reassure the Believers that despite this setback, both the Romans and the Muslims will gain victory shortly.  This prophecy was indeed fulfilled in a few years following revelation of the verse.

What we learn from here is that Truth will eventually vanquish falsehood,
all that is required is that believers remain resilient.

Surah Ankabut (29) 10/02/2016

With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 29 (Ankabut – The Spider)

The Pathways to Allah (SWT)

Verse 69
And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to Our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right.

Striving (making Jihad) is a very broad term encouraging servitude to Allah and encompasses all forms of actions be it dealing with ones own weaknesses, the support and help provided to others  and also standing up for truth, fair dealing and justice. A striking benefit of these noble actions are described here as guidance to “Our Paths”. This latter term is very broad highlighting  that Allah (SWT)’s doors of access are wide with many pathways to reach him. Each person has his/her own circumstances and talents/weaknesses and the pathway to reach closeness to Allah through due strving is a broad highway that is open to everyone.
