Sura 30 (Rum -The Romans)
Signs in nature
Verse 24 “And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise”
In this verse Allah SWT appeals to our sense of intellect (aql), He reminds us of the power of lightning which brings with it the hope of life through the rain which nourishes the earth and makes life possible. On the other hand it also brings with it the possibility of destruction. Allah’s revelation should be seen in a similar light – human beings without guidance are like the living dead and with Allah’s guidance comes the hope of life on the one hand and on the other hand the possibility of destruction. If we heed Allah’s commandments our lives become successful, benefitting not only ourselves but those around us as well. Likewise, if violate His commandments then our destruction is certain.
