With the name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Sura 29 (Ankabut- The spider)

Verse 2-3 “Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, “We believe”, and that they will not be tested.  We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false”

The sura opens by informing us that we will not pass through life easily.
Mere verbal profession of imaan (faith) is not sufficient,  life will present us with challenges and our response thereto will determine whether
we truly believe or not.  In other words our belief is reflected in our deeds.  This has been the way of Allah with previous generations and we are forewarned that we will be tested likewise.    Allah expects believers to
respond to life’s challenges with perseverance (sabr) by remaining firmly committed to their noble objectives.

Cross reference 3:143 “Did ye think that ye would enter Heaven without Allah testing those of you who struggle hard (In His Cause) and remained steadfast”

2:155 “Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere”
